The Stanton minyan, Sunday, 3/31.08

Ben Litchman is the youngest and bubbliest member of our minyan. He's also pretty smart, which is fun, too.

One of the pleasures on Sundays is getting a visit from veteran Stantonista Brian Burstin.

Sunday morning at the Stanton Street minyan is my moment of renewal. It makes no difference that I’d been watching my Tivoed political shows until 3 a.m. and that deep inside I’m more post-Shabbat zombie than real person. I crawl out of bed, grunting and whining, pour hot coffee into myself, put on the minimal attire to keep me a few steps ahead of the law and I drag myself to shul. It helps to have a car, and it helps even more to have a close friend saying Kadish. Because, like all deeply religious person, I’m much more worried about disappointing my friend than disappointing God. Anyway, this morning my reward for making it on time was to get a fresh look at some of the men in our minyan, who, like myself, were still in the post-Shabbat stage and not entirely into the rest of the week. Have a look…

Michael Gordon led the service. He's saying Kadish for his late mother.

David Tropper sings for us each morning the dawn blessings and the pre-prayer psalms. His music is flawless.
